Ivan Madeira

Ivan Madeira is a filmmaker and producer focused on creating original content that he believes in. Ivan’s first dramatic short film Grow Up (2011) became his gateway to filmmaking. Organisation CALM officially supported the film, which led it being featured at the British Urban Film Festival (BUFF), Cannes Short Film Corner, several other festivals and UK television. He went on to direct several other shorts, documentaries, music videos and in particular campaigns for charities including VSO and Ricefield Collective.  Ivan’s last short Child in Their Eyes, featured in Shorts in the South (BFI Film Audience Network) and BUFF 2016.

Ivan has since collaborated with other independent producers, Executive Producing the award winning short film Lifelike (2018) written and directed by Jay Reid. Lifelike has played across Canada, US and Europe and won Best Short at Grindsploitation Film Fest, Best Actor at Macabre Faire Film Festival. It was supported by Telefilm Canada’s Not Short On Talent at Cannes 2019. 

Ivan has co-founded and directed an education film programme GUTFilm for ages 6-11. Over the course of 3 months, 2 groups of students wrote, shot, edited and a red carpet premiere in front of several hundred parents and students two comedy/drama films about the transition from primary to school. Using industry software and equipment, they didn’t try to water it down for the participants. The course included guest tutor Jonathan Glazer who directed the critically acclaimed films Sexy Beast, Birth and Under the Skin.

Outside of filmmaking, Ivan has been working as a  technology programme and project management consultant. With over 14+ years experience he has successfully delivered 50+ large scale change multi-million dollar programmes and projects, for brands including UNHCR, Mazooma, Airbnb, VSO, Amnesty International, Shelter, Nextdoor and the Toronto Public Library. He has used this experiment and embedded it into the framework of how he manages his productions.
